I had the opportunity to try out Sincerely Jen's latest bag pattern, the "Gunther Hobo" aptly named to commemorate the Friends character Gunther, played by  James Michael Taylor and often referred to as the 7th friend in the popular TV show.

The Gunther Hobo comes in two sizes, small and large. I chose the small, which really isn't small at all, but a generous size for every day use. Mine is in Garden Party by Rifle Paper Co for Cotton + Steel, teamed up with Anthracite grey faux leather for contrast and Emmaline bronze rectangular rings, all from Sew Hot.

You wouldn't think by looking, but the front of the bag is cleverly divided into two zipped pockets, perfect for storing items like phone, hand sanitiser, mask or sunglasses within easy reach. I used a gorgeous grass green zipper tape with luxury brushed brass zip pulls from Country Cow Designs

I used the faux leather for the base to make it wipe clean and durable, and love how neat it turned out! Such a nifty construction method to achieve this look!

The back of the bag has a small hidden, phone sized pocket - another clever feature which you could easily make bigger if you need to store a larger item.

The top of the bag closes neatly with a recessed zipper...

...and opens out to a spacious interior with an inner zipped pocket for storing valuables.

A side view to show you the contrast of front and back. The bag is lightly padded with woven cotton interfacing for a slouchy casual effect, hence the 'hobo' style. The pattern can easily be adapted to use fleece for a more structured result if desired.

All in all, a really fun project to make full of interesting bag making techniques, the pattern is pitched at beginner level but will equally appeal to more advanced bag makers. As with all Jenny's patterns, it comes with a full length video and is domestic machine friendly.
